There are many things to sort out prior to going on holiday. If you are travelling around the European Union or Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway then you should seriously consider picking up an E111 form, from your local Post Office.
Having completed one of these forms you would be entitled to a number of medical benefits, free of charge within the aforementioned countries.
Remember though, that this form and its associated benefits are certainly no substitute from a properly selected Holiday Insurance policy.
Who is eligible for the use of an E111 form?
Basically for the entire time that you are classed as a UK resident the E111 form will be valid.
How are they issued?
You used to be able to have an E111 form issued for a whole family group, this has recently changed and now all travellers are required to have their own E111 form - regardless of their ages.
You must also be aware that if you had an E111 form that was issued prior to the 19 August 2004 then it was only valid up to and including 31st December 2004. Therefore you will need to apply for a new version.
Substitute for Holiday Insurance?
Please remember that although an E111 form is a useful thing to have it does not make a good substitute for appropriate Holiday Insurance cover, and therefore to be best covered both should be taken out.
