Holiday checklist
When preparing to go on holiday there are a number of things tat you should do, some of these way in advance of the actual day you leave for your trip:
- Make sure that your passport is up to date. Even if it is up to date, make sure that where you are travelling to does not require you to have a certain amount of time left on your passport before it becomes invalid i.e. if you are travelling outside the EU from the UK. You may also need a specialist visa to visit a country which will need to be applied for up to many months in advance from the day on which you are supposed to travel.
- If you are travelling to a country which is part of the European Union it can be very worthwhile to fill out an E111 form prior to your trip. This form allows you to free or lower cost medical treatment within countries that are members of the EU. It must be remembered that this should not be in place of a holiday insurance policy but as a supplement.
- To make your visit to the airport easier you may wish to consider booking a hotel and/or pre-paying for your airport parking. Getting to the airport early in the morning can sometimes be very stressful especially if you are not sure about the route you need to take. If your flight is very early in the morning it can be a great bonus to have stayed in an hotel at the airport the night before so all you need to do is wander to the terminal in the morning.
- If you are travelling to less developed countries you may need to have a number of inoculations against diseases that could be contracted in that area of the world. Some of these may have to be undertaken a number of weeks prior to your holiday and can consist of courses of injection that you may need to have. Make sure that you speak to your doctor to make sure that you have the correct protection.
- Remember to arrange your holiday insurance prior to leaving and make sure that the policy that you choose covers all of the activities that you may wish to partake in whilst you are away.
- Make sure to arrange your financial before you go away, preferably taking a combination of Travellers Cheques, Credit Card and local currency, for further information on this topic please view our Foreign Money Tips page.
