Young drivers in London are being advised to stay away from driving unpopular 4x4s on city roads.
Motorists in the capital are twice as likely as the average driver to buy a 4x4 vehicle even though they are unlikely to encounter off-road terrain in the local high-street, reports AA Personal Loans.
The average speed of traffic in London is below ten mph but the 4x4s are proving very popular despite their high fuel consumption. Instead, young drivers are being urged to consider making a more economical and environmentally-friendly choice when it comes to buying a new car.
Lloyd East, general manager of AA Financial Services said: "When you consider the volume of traffic in London it is almost counter-intuitive that drivers in the capital opt for large vehicles traditionally associated with rougher terrain."
He added: "We would urge people to think carefully about their needs before they buy a car. After your home its one of the biggest purchases people make so its worth spending a little time shopping around to get the best deal possible."
