Plans to reduce speeding could mean an increase in costs for many young drivers.
Proposals under the latest Road Safety Bill mean that many drivers could see their insurance premiums increase by around 300 per cent if they are caught speeding in a 30mph area.
The addition of six points for anyone breaking the 30mph speed limit by 15mph means that for young drivers their insurance cover costs will increase even further. Research estimates that six points could result in premiums rising by around £476.39.
Richard Mason, director of insuresupermarket.com, believes that the best way to avoid the extra premiums is to keep a close eye on the speedometer.
He added: "Driving dangerously wont just cost you points on your licence; your premium will significantly increase with six points."
"When youre in a rush to get home from work at the end of the day, think before you put your foot down, getting caught speeding once is bad luck but twice and you could lose your license."
