Shopping around for the best home insurance deal could help to cover any experiences of crime.
Home insurance provider More Th>n is warning homeowners to make sure that their current insurance policy offers enough protection against the changing nature of UK burglaries as well as protecting against possible identity theft.
Research from the company suggest that there has been a gradual shift in the attitude of thieves over recent years and that small expensive objects are proving tempting to a number of criminals.
However, finding a home insurance policy that covers personal items outside the main home could help to at least cover the financial cost of crime, especially following the rise in popularity of portable goods such as video phones and PDAs.
David Pitt, Head of Insurance at More Th>n said: "As this research highlights, there is a proliferation of small but high value gadgets not only in the home now, but also on our person as we go about our daily life."
He added: "It is important to ensure you have enough insurance cover for these items both in the home and when you are carrying them about on your person."
