Households need to remember to add the cost of home insurance to their running costs.
Direct Line claims that the average UK household spends a total of £8,094 on running their home each year. The insurance provider believes that this amount is set to rise as more people start to employ home help such as cleaners and gardeners.
The study discovered that the largest amount is spent on mortgage and rent payments at £4,296 a year, whilst utilities added up to £1,260 a year and council tax amounts for £1,152 a year.
"Our index reveals that for many, convenience and time saving are priorities and they are willing to bear the cost for the luxury of third party home help," said David Allan, commercial director for Direct Line Living for Less campaign.
"From cleaners and gardeners to ironing services we are increasingly searching for convenient services that also save us time."
However, many people are neglecting to factor in the cost of home insurance into their annual costs despite the cover being vital if something goes wrong.
