People are being advised to double check that their current home insurance will cover the cost of those expensive Christmas gifts.
Last month's arrival of Father Christmas could mean that many UK homes are under insured following the giving and receiving of expensive presents, warns Halifax Home Insurance.
Some home insurance policies do automatically allow for temporary extensions contents cover over Christmas but this should be made permanent if needed for a longer period.
"Householders should check their insurance policy documents to ensure they are not underinsured following Christmas," said Vicky Emmott, senior underwriter Halifax Home Insurance.
"It's vital for people without unlimited cover to remember to update their insurer with any changes to their contents value," she added.
