Worthing is hoping to boost its visitor numbers by being included on more weather maps.
Councillors are urging the Met Office and television companies to put the seaside holiday resort on their maps in order to help support the town's tourism industry, reports the Argus.
At present potential visitors are only shown the weather in nearby places such as Brighton or Portsmouth. However, just because there is poor weather in those two cities, doesn't mean that Worthing isn't enjoying a sunny spell.
Liberal Democrat group leader Councillor Bob Smytherman: "Worthing is one of the biggest towns in West Sussex and it's an absolute nonsense it's not included on the weather maps.
"It's having a detrimental effect on the tourist trade, particularly at this time of year when the weather's more hit or miss. I'm sure when people living in London and surrounding areas look at the forecast in the mornings to decide where to visit on the south coast many are put off if the weather is bad in Brighton and Portsmouth."
It is hoped that putting Worthing on the maps will encourage more people to take a day trip holiday to the resort and local residents are hopeful that next year's map review by the Met Office will see their town included.
