Not all travellers are as lucky as a Canadian man who recently lost his wife's purse whilst on holiday in the US, only for it to turn up a day later.
Said Khalili managed to loss the designer purse, which contained $1million of jewellery including a Cartier watch, diamond and ruby rings, pearl earrings, necklaces with large diamond stones and $500 cash, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.
However, a local resident, John Suhroff returned the purse to a police station in Sausalito, California, after discovering it abandoned on a park bench. Police praised the man's honesty and stressed that Mr Khalili was a very lucky man, especially as any lack of holiday insurance could have meant the items would never had been replaced.
Mr Suhrhoff said: "Every person I know or associate with would have done the same thing. I'm glad to be able to help."
The Canadian couple had been in San Francisco for their daughter's wedding and had left the purse on the bench whilst sight-seeing. However, all travellers are advised they can not count on the their lost items being returned so need to ensure they have adequate holiday insurance to cover the cost of replacing any lost or stolen possessions.
