A travel company is hoping to offer the UK's first package holidays to China within 12 months.
MyTravel, via its subsidiary Airtours, is to offer travellers the chance to visit the People's Republic as part of an expansion of its long haul operations.
Prices will start at £800 for a two-week break to the Sanya resort on Hainan island in the South China Sea. Flights will take around 15 hours and include a stopover in Bahrain.
However, travellers interested in booking the trip are recommended to ensure they have adequate holiday insurance, especially given the region's monsoon climate. Visitors also need to be vaccinated against polio, diphtheria, hepatitis A, typhoid and, for some areas of the country, malaria; otherwise they could face expensive medical treatment.
Airtours' managing director Steve Barrass said it was responding to the increasing need of holidaymakers to visit more adventurous locations. He added: "We are making what is still one of the world's most intriguing destinations accessible to all."
