Consumers are being warned to double-check so-called "free" holiday insurance otherwise they could find themselves without sufficient protection.
The Citizen's Advice Bureau is advising travellers to be wary of products that come with free holiday protection because they tend to offer only basic cover, reports Reuters.
Susan Marks at the CAB said: "The policies given away 'free' with financial products tend to be basic products with only standard forms of cover.
"Those going outside the EU or needing specialist insurance cover are really advised to read the policy details and to establish whether the cover they have is entirely adequate."
The basic cover is often offered to customers of certain credit cards or bank accounts but increasingly consumers are failing to read the details and may find themselves automatically assuming they are covered for emergency medical treatment or able to claim back the cost of stolen/lost baggage.
