People planning to hit the winter slopes are being advised to take out travel insurance to help cover the cost of expensive breaks.
Insurance provider Norwich Union has discovered that the cost of breaking a leg on the ski slopes could prove very expensive, especially if the break occurs on the US pistes.
The cost of treating a fractured leg in the USA can total around £20,000 compared to £13,000 in Canada and just £4,000 in Italy. In order to avoid such costly medical treatment bills, holiday makers are being advised to make sure they have sufficient travel insurance in place before putting on the skis.
Dawn McMullan, travel product manager, at Norwich Union said: "With all eyes on the Turin Winter Olympics, there's an increased interest in winter sports and people should remember to take out travel insurance with winter sports optional cover before hitting the slopes."
She added: "People want peace of mind when they're on holiday - they need to know that they'll be looked after in case of an accident."
