Single parent families are being advised to make sure their holiday insurance is valid before jetting off for the Easter break.
Insurance provider American Express has raised concerns that some separated and single parent families may not be fully covered by all family holiday insurance policies.
It is estimated that there are around 1.7 million single parent families in the UK, but that many family holiday insurance policies to do not offer them adequate levels of protection against delays, theft or unexpected medical treatment because of small-print definitions of what constitutes a "family".
Joanne Field, marketing manager with American Express, said: "It is concerning that not all insurers are recognising or reflecting in their policies the changing nature of families in the 21st Century.
"I urge anyone travelling abroad, but particularly families, in the light of this research to check their policy cover and call their insurer to clarify any aspect they have concerns about."
