Families are being encouraged to make sure they shop around to find the best deals on summer holidays.
Traditionally, the school summer holidays can mean parents are forced to payout more for their two week vacation, however, many households could save money by spending more time researching good offers before buying.
Parents who are located close to the Scottish border could seek out good flight prices because the Scottish school holidays are slightly different with English school holidays running from July 21st to the start of September compared to Scottish schools breaks that run from June 30th to August 15th. This slight crossover means that any family willing to fly from a Scottish-airport could make considerable savings.
A family of four living in Newcastle could spend £1,478 for a week self-catering in Tenerife, compared to £1,226 if they depart from Glasgow, according to the Daily Mirror.
In addition, shopping around for the most suitable holiday insurance is vital. Rather than simply going for the holiday insurance offered by travel agents, families are encouraged to make sure they check out high-street and online competitors.
Providers such as the Post Office offer family holiday insurance with a special Kids Go Free deal. It may also make more sense for frequent travellers to consider purchasing multi-trip insurance cover in order to save more.
