Travellers hoping to get away over the two forthcoming bank holidays are being advised to make sure they have sufficient holiday insurance otherwise they could find themselves facing large bills.
Insurance provider InsureandGo is urging travellers that getting holiday insurance is necessary even for short breaks otherwise an incident or accident could result in expensive costs.
Perry Wilson, from InsureandGo, said: "Many believe that for trips lasting only a few days the likelihood of something happening to them is somehow less so getting cover isn't necessary.
"The reality is that you can be involved in an accident at any time, and for example with medical bills in Spain for say a broken arm costing a few thousand pounds just think about how you would cover this cost at short notice."
Travellers are also being warned not to just rely on the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), as this can often cause a delay in treatment or mean paying upfront for medical attention with the process of having to reclaim at a later date.
