The forthcoming Winter Olympics are likely to inspire a number of winter breaks but travellers are being warned not to forget the holiday insurance.
The sight of expert skiers on television sets is enough to convince many holidaymakers they need to take a winter break but copying some of the moves seen on the Olympic ice rink could result in some expensive medical treatment.
American Express Travel Insurance is advising anyone planning to hit the slopes to double-check their current holiday insurance policy covers them for winter pursuits such as snowboarding and skiing.
Joanne Field, marketing manager, American Express Travel Insurance said: "We all love the thrills and spills of winter sports. Its easy to get carried away and pick up incredible speeds on the slopes without considering the consequences.
"Such risks are all the more worrying if people leave home without comprehensive winter sports cover."
It is estimated that over one million Brits take to the pistes each year and one in ten suffer some form of injury.
