Pensioners planning to take a trip abroad are being reminded to make sure they have sufficient holiday insurance before they embark on their adventurous travels.
The new AXA Retirement Scope report shows that many British elderly people are planning to use their retirement years to travel to places throughout the world.
Nearly two thirds of retired Brits have been on holiday at least once in the past 12 months, compared to just 50 per cent of retired Australians. British pensioners are also more willing to travel abroad for their holiday in fact three times as likely as Americans and six times more likely than their Japanese counterparts.
Steve Folkard, head of pensions at AXA said: "It seems like theres never been a better time to be retired in the UK. There are literally decades between leaving work and getting old so people are really making the most of their freedom."
However, pensioners are being urged to take out adequate holiday insurance cover just in case they require expensive medical treatment whilst travelling abroad.
