January could be the ideal time for travellers to find a cheap holiday break.
Many tour operators are making substantial reductions in order to encourage people to take a trip following the busy festive period. However, some experts are warning people to double-check that the deal is as good as it first appears.
A spokesman for the Co-operative Travel Trading Group (CTTG) stressed that the January holiday sales do include some great deals, especially for families hoping to travel to a specific resort, but consumers should be aware that pre-sale prices could have included additional extras or been particularly high in the first place.
A spokeswoman for the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) added: "The important thing is the amount you pay, not whether you have got 20 per cent or 30 per cent off a holiday."
She added: "It is vital to compare like with like, because a package tour featuring a hotel and a flight is not the same as an independent trip featuring the same hotel and flight. Packages offer financial protection if something goes wrong, and people may feel that is worth paying a bit extra for. "
