Losing a valuable item of jewellery can certainly damage your wallet, but if it is a piece with sentimental value attached the loss is all the more upsetting.
An engagement or wedding ring is a meaningful possession, but a survey from Prudential found that Britons will lose £94 million worth of rings over the course of the next 12 months.
One in ten newlyweds misplace their ring within three months of saying "I do" and 42 per cent lose it within the first five years of marriage.
Anyone planning to go on holiday this summer should check that any valuables are covered by either their holiday insurance or their home insurance.
Phil Southgate of Prudential said: "With many engagement rings costing the equivalent of a month's salary, forking out for a replacement in such a short time is no small feat and making sure they are appropriately covered is important.
"While insurance can't replace the sentimental value of a ring, it will cover any financial loss."
