Holiday insurance crucial for winter travellers

Anyone planning a late winter trip this season is advised to make sure they take out holiday insurance before taking to the slopes.
Recent reports from the Independent on Sunday suggest that many ski resorts are experiencing one of the worst avalanche seasons on record.
Therefore American Express Travel Insurance is urging anyone to ensure they have adequate holiday insurance cover, especially if they plan on going off-piste where the snow is increasingly unstable.
Special winter sports holiday cover will specifically protect the more adventurous skier or snowboarder and help to cover any unforeseen expenses including the cost of rescue.
Joanne Field, marketing manager for American Express Travel Insurance, said: "It is vital to compare cover when buying winter sports travel insurance, as policies can vary enormously. Not all insurers offer off-piste cover as standard."
