The growing number of Brits being caught up in terrorist attacks means that many holiday insurance providers are rethinking the level of cover their policies provide.
A total of 40 British travellers have been killed in terrorist incidents since the 9/11 attacks and leading holiday insurance providers such as InsureandGo have decided to remove terrorism exclusion clauses.
Any InsureandGo policyholders caught up in terrorist acts are now covered for medical expenses and provided with emergency assistance as long as they are travelling to a country that is considered safe by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).
Perry Wilson, director of InsureandGo, said: "As a specialist we are constantly analysing the market to ensure that our policies really are meeting the needs of travellers today. As such we felt that we had no choice than to remove the terrorism exclusion to enable us to really protect our policyholders further."
He added: "When you compare the number of trips taken each year the likelihood of a being caught up in a terrorist attack is thankfully minimal."
