Holiday makers need to ensure their insurance is up-to-date as reports of proposed summer strikes emerge.
Those who choose to travel without adequate cover could find themselves stranded at airports when staff stage walkouts.
Newcastle Airport has already reported that summer travellers could face lengthy delays as 180 air traffic controllers, firefighters and security staff prepare for a 48-hour strike at the end of the month over pay concerns.
Unison and the Transport and General Workers Union said that the strikes are likely to result in the airport being shut to travellers.
The TGWU's regional industrial organiser Graham Eastwood, speaking to the Evening Chronicle, said: "I think that given the number of people we expect to be out in dispute, we would anticipate the airport for health and safety reasons would be closed.
"I think it is extremely unlikely and extremely difficult for them to operate a full service."
