Holiday insurance is a cost-effective way of ensuring a successful winter break.
Over 1.2 million Brit took a winter vacation last year, but just one in seven took out adequate holiday insurance cover, according to insurers Bradford & Bingley and Churchill.
Despite indulging in risky winter pursuits such as skiing and snowboarding, many holiday makers regard insurance as an unnecessary expense, however, it could be vital if the worst should happen.
"With snowboarding becoming increasingly mainstream but no less dangerous, its important for boarders to make sure they take winter sports cover in addition to their travel insurance," said Mike Ketteringham, head of Churchill travel insurance.
"If not, they may have to deal with some unpleasant surprises while on holiday when they really should be busy enjoying themselves," he added.
An accident on the slopes could result in a nasty bill, with a broken leg in France potentially costing around £5,000 in related expenses.
