Glasgow airport could soon provide more flights to popular holiday destinations.
Low-cost ailing easyjet is considering offering flights to Paris, Madrid, Barcelona and Milan direct from Glasgow if its current Glasgow to Berlin service proves a success with holidaymakers.
"This is a toe in the water for us," said easyjet communications director Toby Nicol.
"If it works, and if the flying times are not too long, there are other destinations we will look at, like Paris, Milan, Madrid, Barcelona. They are all established easyjet hubs."
The daily flight service to Berlin is being backed by Glasgow Airport owner BAA, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, VisitScotland and the Scottish Executives route development fund. It is hoped that the new route will attract overseas holiday tourist as well as encouraging more Scots to take a trip to the popular holiday destination of Berlin.
It is expected that easyjet will monitor the success of the Glasgow route over the coming six to nine months before making the decision whether to increase new routes from Glasgow next year.
