A new survey has found that many Londoners benefit from a holiday away from aircraft noise.
A total of 74 per cent of residents living under the Heathrow flightpath have confirmed that they could do with a break from the noise of aeroplanes flying overhead, with 44 per cent believing the noise has increased over the past decade.
The research, conducted on behalf of the Greater London Authority, confirmed support for runway alternation to help provide some breaks in the noise but it is likely that residents could also benefit from a more long-term holiday break.
Mayor of London Ken Livingstone said: "This survey provides a useful measure of the views and experiences of Londoners living under the Heathrow flightpath.
"The vast majority of Londoners living under the Heathrow flightpath value the half a day's peace and quiet they get from runway alternation and want to see this retained."
Purchasing holiday insurance could also be vital to ensure that those peaceful breaks are not interrupted with unexpected and costly problems such as delays and lost baggage.
