Holidaymakers are being advised to make sure they do enough research to avoid their two-weeks in the sun being a disappointment.
Research by Direct Line Travel Insurance discovered that many Brits endure a number of "horrors" whilst on holiday but often fail to complain even though their travel insurance could help.
A total of 37 per cent of travellers had their dream vacation ruined because of poor accommodation and 12 per cent admitted they had simply paid out more to move to alternative hotels.
Direct Line Travel Insurance are urging people to ensure they fully research their chosen destination before booking and double check the terms of their holiday insurance policy before they spend additional money trying to rectify the problems.
"To minimise the risk of holidays being ruined we would advise people to thoroughly research their destination before going," said Chris Price, head of Direct Line Travel Insurance.
He added: "Holidaymakers who are disappointed by their experience and want to take the matter further, should consider all of their options. They should contact their travel insurance provider as their cover may include support for legal proceedings, should they want to take the issue further."
