Anyone planning an adventure holiday is being reminded that travel insurance is vital to cover any unexpected medical treatment.
Travel insurance provider AXA revealed that over 200,000 Brits holidaymakers could be injured whilst enjoying an activity holiday.
The growing popularity of adventure and activity holidays means that more travellers are facing the need for emergency medical treatment. It is estimated that nearly one in three adults are planning to take some form of adventurous holiday in the next year with one in five of the over 65s hoping to avoid the usual beach or cruise break.
However, the study revealed that 16 per cent of those planning to spend their vacation enjoying sporting pursuits do not intend to purchase travel insurance cover despite the increased risk.
Pat Brady, travel insurance manager, AXA Insurance said: We are finding that many more people are choosing to build tailor-made holidays and plan adventure-orientated breaks but are not covering themselves against the added risks that come with them.
"I fear that people are leaving themselves vulnerable. Many people believe that nothing will happen to them and while this is the true in the majority of cases, for the sake of a few pounds to take out travel insurance, doesnt it make sense to have peace of mind."
