Young drivers could end up having to pay up for stolen gadgets if they fail to adequately insure their car's contents.
Police have seen a significant increase in thieves targeting expensive in-car devices such as satellite navigation systems and expensive stereos, reports the Manchester Evening News.
It is estimated that sales of CD players for cars have increased by 40 per cent over the last four years, whilst sat nav devices have seen demand increased by ten times since 2004.
However, many drivers are failing to make sure such items are covered by their current motor insurance policies and are often forced to fork out for their replacement.
Young drivers are being encouraged to double-check the small print on their insurance cover to ensure that all in car accessories are adequately protected.
Larry Igbon, of Age Concern Manchester, said: "It's important that people make sure their new purchases are covered. Most car insurance policies will cover ICE systems up to a certain value, but if you've purchased a new stereo, sat navigation or TV for your car, it's wise to check the terms and conditions to make sure that you aren't caught out."
