Many young drivers are looking at cars that offer performance rather than environmentally-friendly benefits, according to a new study.
The research from AA Personal Loans shows that over 50 per cent of car buyers consider performance as key, whilst less than a third of motorists actively look for a car that is kinder to the environment dispute growing concerns over climate change.
A total of 40 per cent will consider a vehicle that offers a practical solution to their everyday needs, whilst just one in five buyers will chose a car purely for its appearance.
AA Personal Loans general manager Lloyd East commented: "Motorists will often have a few thoughts in mind when choosing a new car but it's surprising that the environment isn't higher on the list of priorities."
The survey also found that 22 per cent of motorists, likely to include many young drivers, are keen to get a vehicle that puts them in a cheaper car insurance bracket to help reduce motoring costs.
