Telematics could eventually provide a number of motor insurance benefits to consumers.
The use of computer and GPS -based systems could allow for the introduction of pay-as-you-go insurance schemes that will help reduce insurance premiums for those motorists who drive short, low-risk journeys.
Telematics could also increase the recovery of stolen cars by tracking their movements and hopeful lead to a decline in car crime figures, as well as identifying dangerous drivers.
The high-tech systems may also aid accident scene officers in determining the cause of a collision and mean that less people have to make unnecessary claims on their policies - again leading to a reduction in annual premium prices.
