Shopping around for insurance cover could help to reduce annual premiums.
Research by financial product comparison service Moneyextra concluded that many financial institutions are having to reduce prices in order to beat competition, meaning that some consumers could save around £132 this year.
Many consumers are being encouraged to use the internet to search around for the best deal, especially as some insurance companies offer a discount for those applying via their website. For example, insurance polices bought via AA's online service attract a ten per cent discount.
In addition, people should shop around to ensure they find the most competitive cover when their current policy ends and do not simply renew their existing insurance.
