Proposals for pay-as-you-go road use could help catch those drivers who are uninsured.
The government believes that the introduction of the new scheme could not only help reduce congestion but could also bring a number of other benefits including increased detection of those trying to escape paying road tax and insurance.
The initiative will use GPS technology to track the location of vehicles throughout the UK and will change motorists from 2p a mile for less-congestion roads to over £1.30 for the busiest areas.
The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) is also hoping that the technology will be advanced enough to remote disabling of vehicles that are caught breaking the law.
