Many holidaymakers could face higher car insurance premiums because of "driver-lag".
A report by Privilege Insurance concludes that many holidaymakers drive home from the airport whilst still suffering from a condition identified as "driver lag", which could increase their risk of being involved in an accident.
Driver lag has similar symptoms to jet leg, which include tiredness and lack of concentration but can also mean that people are unable to drive safely.
It is estimated that over one million motorists drive whilst suffering from the condition and it has been linked to around 60,000 accidents.
Aviation health expert, Farrol Kahn, said: "The research has identified a new condition, driver lag, that can last up to a week post-flight.
"Driver lag has all the similar symptoms to jet lag and can affect all motorists irrespective of age."
Mr Kahn also expressed surprise that the condition is not exclusive to those who have been on long-haul flights, with many travellers flying within the UK reporting symptoms of the condition.
