New year plans to sort out finances should include shopping around for a better car insurance deal.
Recent research by IFA Promotion discovered that many people began 2006 with hopes of sorting out their financial situation but many will soon revert into their old habits. However, the simply process of finding competitive car insurance cover could help to reduce outgoings and increase disposable income levels.
IFA Promotion's study concluded that 55 per cent of people are hoping to budget better over the next 12 months but that this aim is prove as successful as other New Year resolutions including giving up smoking and losing weight.
David Elms, chief executive of IFA Promotion, said: "It is very encouraging to see so many people starting the year with resolutions- especially financial."
He added: "However, it can be easy to let these good intentions fall by the wayside."
Surprisingly 88,000 of the participants planned to improve their financial circumstances by winning the lottery something which has a one in 14 million chance of becoming reality.
