The increasing level of high-tech in-car equipment could be turning vehicles in to 'mobile offices' and endangering the lives of other road users.
The popularity, especially amongst young drivers, of gadgets such as sat-nav systems, mobile phones, PDAs and MP3 players could lead to more accidents, reports Motoring Life.
It is hoped that companies will do more to ensure that their employees do not conduct business whilst on the move, especially if such distractions divert attention away from other road users.
Conor Kelly, managing director of Merrion Fleet, is hoping that firms will discourage the use of the high-tech devices as well as advising workers that even basic tasks such as eating, personal grooming or drinking, when performed on the move, can lead to accidents.
He added: "The main safety issues that should be monitored by companies are roadworthiness, mobile phone use, driving periods and safe driving practices."
