Six points on your driving licence can lead to an extra 25 per cent to pay on your car insurance premium, but it needn't necessarily do so according to insurance broker A&A Group.
The insurance intermediary is recommending that consumers choose their insurer carefully, as some companies are flexible about licence points, reports FemaleFirst.co.uk.
Such insurers consider the nature of the offence and do not penalise motorists with petty offences, such as having defective windscreen wipers or parking too close to a pedestrian crossing, with hiked-up premiums.
"There are a whole host of offences that attract penalty points. They range from the serious - causing death by careless/ dangerous driving and driving whilst drunk - to the less serious - using an unsuitable vehicle or one with parts that are in a dangerous condition," explains A&A Group chief executive Tony Allen.
"All attract points from two to 11 per offence according to how serious it is considered, but it is unfair for brokers to treat a driver with two small offences as they would a driver with a single more serious conviction if the result is that both have the same number of points on their licence."
