It is vital that drivers keep their car insurance providers up-to-date about any changes made to their vehicle or their circumstances.
The Post Office has issued a special car insurance check list to assure that drivers are aware if they need to let their provider know about something that could affect their policy.
The majority of changes could lead to lower car insurance premiums and could allow for substantial savings. For instance, retiring means no more commuter driving and therefore less risk for insurance companies.
However, some changes could mean an increase in premiums but failure to tell an insurer about being caught speeding or upgrades to a vehicle could result in policies becoming invalid and providers will not have to pay any subsequent claims.
Head of Post Office car insurance, Phil Ashkuri, said: "If your personal situation changes in any way, tell your insurer. Its the best way to avoid running into problems should you be unfortunate to have an accident or need to make a claim."
