A recent drive driving campaign organised by the Essex police force highlights the need of law abiding motorists to have adequate motor insurance.
Figures released by Essex police show that the campaign has reduced the number of drink driving incidents on the region's roads by a third.
A total of 5,188 drivers who were tested, but police found that only 118 drivers were actually over the legal limit. A similar campaign in 2004 revealed a hit rate of 3.4 per cent, compared to this year's 2.3 per cent rate.
"Were very pleased that these figures show a decrease in the numbers of people drinking and driving, and that the drink-drive message is being taken on board," said Inspector Simon Morgan, of Essex Polices Mobile Support Division.
However, Mr Morgan also warned that many drivers still chose to ignore the risks associated with drink driving and that they continuing to put the life of other motorists at risk.
