British motorists are warned that inadequate insurance cover could cancel out savings made on cheap travel deals.
Privilege Insurance states many motorists are taking advantage of cut-price deals on channel crossings but by failing to add all drivers onto their policy before their continental trip they could be making a false economy.
While sharing driving duties is advisable as it reduces tiredness and so the risk of accidents, additional drivers not named on the insurance policy should be added as temporary additional drivers, enabling them to drive with the same cover as the person insured.
Ian Parker, managing director of Privilege Insurance advised: "In the excitement of planning a holiday it is easy to forget to check your car insurance policy. Finding yourself without adequate cover in a foreign country could not only spoil a good holiday - it could also prove costly as your insurance claim may not be valid if the driver at the time of an accident is not covered."
