Any vehicles can become a crime target and therefore all cars should be covered by an adequate motor insurance policy, claims a new study.
Research using data from the HPI database reveals that supercars and high-luxury cars may attract the highest number of criminals but family and city car vehicles are also at risk.
The HPI database is used to check the history of a car and can reveal whether the vehicle has been stolen, written off, have a mileage discrepancy or have outstanding finance against it.
The research showed that many supercars and luxury vehicles models have the highest risk of being stolen, whilst coupes and executive cars are also key targets for car criminals.
Daniel Burgess, automotive director, said: "Close analysis of this data reveals that dealers must not be complacent when it comes to the middle of the range vehicles such as family cars.
"Unsurprisingly, luxury and performance cars are high risk, but the hit rates highlight the need for dealer awareness across the entire range of vehicles."
The database's findings underline the need for drivers to ensure they shop around for the best motor insurance cover and double-check their vehicle is protected against all times of car crime.
