Car insurance prices have fallen by around 24 per cent of the past two years.
Data from the Irish Insurance Federation shows there has been a steady decrease in premium costs for the majority of drivers, with rates now similar to those seen in Northern Ireland and the UK.
Chief executive Michael Kemp confirmed that insurance premiums not stand at the same level as in 1999, although the presence of uninsured drivers on the road was a growing problem.
It is estimated that nearly 70,000 uninsured vehicles are being driven in Ireland every day but the industry is keen to tackle the problem, aiming to reduce premiums by a further 20 per cent.
