Increasing number of Britons are using the internet to conduct financial transactions, new figures state.
With the wide range of financial service, including car and home insurance, bank statements and credit card information available at the click of a mouse it is no surprise that one-fifth of the population have used the web to manage their money.
Lloyds TSB found that people aged 25-34 were most likely to use online banking and men were slightly more inclined to use the internet than women.
Matthew Timms, internet and ATM director, said: "The growth of internet banking is phenomenal.
"This popularity isn't surprising given the speed and convenience of banking online."
However, despite its growing popularly a number of Britons are still in the dark about the range of services available online. One-fifth didn't know they could check their balance on the web and a third didn't know they could transfer money or organise direct debits, for example to pay for car insurance.
