Shopping around for car insurance could mean that motorists have more to spend on breakdown cover.
Finding the most competitive deal on car insurance could leave a little extra to cover the cost of breaking down, claims Tesco Car Breakdown.
The average motorist without any roadside cover could face an average bill of £64.80 more than double the cost of buying breakdown cover upfront.
Allan Burns, head of Car Breakdown Cover at Tesco said: "Many motorists have a tendency to take an 'it'll never happen to me' attitude, but with thousands of car breakdowns attended every week, they could be picking up a very large bill when a garage picks up their car."
Tesco's research also found that getting a vehicle repaired at the roadside without proper cover can prove difficult with four out of ten garages polled unable to rescue stranded motorists.
