Being the perfect driver is near impossible, according to a leading car insurance provider.
Marks & Spencer Car Insurance has revealed a complicated formula to assess how careful drivers really are. The company hope that the research will encourage motorists to think how they can improve their daily driving habits.
The formula uses nine different factors to assess the ability of drivers, including reaction time, risk taking, aggression, spatial awareness and observation and was created using data from an online driving simulator.
Initial results show that women tend to be better drivers as they display a greater awareness of road hazards and plan their journey well in advance with 84 per cent of women examining a map before setting out, compared to just 64 per cent of men.
"The perfect driving formula gives an indication of your current level of driving skill but also how certain aspects of it could be improved," said the consultant psychologist for M&S Car Insurance, Dr David Lewis.
"It encourages drivers to think about what skills go in to becoming a good driver and hopefully theyll take those thoughts on to the roads when theyre next behind the wheel," he added.
