Birthday celebrations for pioneering motor insurance company

The pioneering motor insurance company Norwich Union Direct is celebrating its tenth birthday.
The company, which was one of the first in the industry to offer products directly to consumers, is now the largest insurer in the UK – with one in seven vehicles being insured by the company.
Established in 1995, with just 300 staff members, the company now employs 4000 workers in eight customer centres throughout the world.
"The last ten years have seen a dramatic change in the way customers buy insurance," said Mark Hodges, managing director, Norwich Union general insurance.
"In particular the rise in popularity of the internet has contributed significantly to the growth of Norwich Union Direct."
During the last decade Norwich Union has expand its product range from motor and home insurance to include travel insurance, breakdown cover, life cover as well as cover for home appliances, central heating, home emergencies and pets.
