Those aged over 65 should shop around in order to get the bests deals on car insurance, according to new reports.
"Medical advances and healthier lifestyles mean that age is not necessarily the risk factor it once was, and many people in their sixties - even seventies - are very fit and healthy," said Richard Mason, director of insuresupermarket.com.
"If you are in good health, we'd recommend searching the whole market; while some specialist providers can provide competitive quotes, they do not necessarily always offer a good deal."
One way for people to save money could be use the internet to find the best deal, particularly as it can provide an environment without high pressure sales techniques.
The research found that shopping could help elderly people save up to 60 per cent of their insurance premiums, not only in car insurance but in other areas such as health and house cover.
