Drivers are more likely to have an accident over bank holidays - highlighting the need for adequate car insurance.
Lloyds TSB Insurance's research, based on last year May bank holiday's data, shows that car claims could increase by 20 per cent.
"You might think most accidents happen in the daily rush hour stress, but actually, the real risk is when we're caught off guard," said Phil Loney, managing director of Lloyds TSB Insurance.
"Sunshine and the prospect of three days off work can be a dangerous cocktail on the roads."
The company hopes the research will remind motorists to check their car insurance policies are up-to-date and offer sufficient cover.
