A new EDM in the House of Commons has underlined the threat posed by those drivers who do not possess car insurance.
EDM 825 was first put down on March 2nd 2005 by Ken Purchase, Labour MP for Wolverhampton North East, with the motion urging the government to be stricter on those ignoring the need for car insurance.
The EDM read: "That this House expresses its deepest sympathy with the parents, relatives and school friends of Jamie Mason, aged 12, who was tragically killed by the vehicle of an unlicenced driver; is dismayed by and deplores the derisory sentence of two months' imprisonment given by the Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court; and calls on the government to review the sentencing policy which allows those driving without a licence to take a life and not pay an appropriate penalty."
To date MPs including Rob Marris, Dennis Turner, David Wright and Keith Bradley have all signed the motion.
